BackgroundThe use of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has spread worldwide as a result an expansion indications and aging society. However, the value RTSA for very old patients is rarely analyzed. This study was conducted to investigate outcome primary in older than 80 years.MethodsWe identified 171 shoulders (159 patients) treated with at age more years between January 2005 March 2018. The parameters were Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV) Constant-Murley score, mortality, complications, reoperation rates. Secondary outcomes adverse radiographic outcomes. Anatomic and Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty in Patients Older Than 80 Years.
Anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) are routinely performed in patients older than 80 years. Often unaware of the differences between the 2 procedures, patients may expect similar outcomes from these procedures. This article reports the outcomes of primary TSA and RSA in patients older than 80 years, with attention directed toward differences...
متن کاملClinical outcomes of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty in patients aged younger than 60 years.
BACKGROUND Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has been indicated primarily for patients aged older than 65 years with symptomatic rotator cuff deficiency, poor function, and pain. However, conditions that benefit from RTSA are not restricted to an elderly population. This study evaluates a consecutive series of RTSA patients aged younger than 60 years. METHODS We evaluated 36 shoulder...
متن کاملEarly Outcomes Following Metal-on-Metal Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty in Patients Younger Than 50 Years.
Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is a useful intervention for older patients with glenohumeral arthritis and a deficient rotator cuff. However, as a semiconstrained prosthesis, conventional reverse TSA implanted in a young patient could fail over time secondary to polyethylene wear and subsequent osteolysis. A metal-on-metal prosthesis may avoid this type of failure. The purpose of thi...
متن کاملCementless total hip arthroplasty in patients older than 80 years of age.
We reviewed 80 patients (87 hips) who were older than 80 years of age at the time of cementless total hip arthroplasty. An Alloclassic SL stem had been implanted in all patients. A variety of cementless acetabular components was used. After a mean follow-up of 69.3 months (39.2 to 94.1) 48 hips in 43 patients were analysed clinically and radiologically. One patient had sustained a traumatic per...
متن کاملThe outcome of primary total hip and knee arthroplasty in patients aged 80 years or more.
Primary arthroplasty may be denied to very elderly patients based upon the perceived outcome and risks associated with surgery. This prospective study compared the outcome, complications, and mortality of total hip (TKR) and total knee replacement (TKR) in a prospectively selected group of patients aged ≥ 80 years with that of a control group aged between 65 and 74 years. There were 171 and 495...
